Welcome to MALLARDS
Celebrating Flora and Fauna on the Isle of Man.
The Mallards Project has been developing on the Isle of Man since 2010 and is guided by the masterplan produced by Gross Max, which was granted Change of Land Use consent by the Isle of Man Government following two years of consultations. The 200-acre site consists of a mixture of designed and naturalised areas; and agricultural land with establishing woodlands.
The Living Plant Collections are being established mainly from seed. Plant material is sourced to include as wide a genetic range as possible to represent the species diversity. The primary focus is on temperate biomes from around the world, flora from islands both physical and metaphorical, highlighting the importance of biodiversity and the effects of climate change on plants, plant populations, adaptation, and resilience. Each designed area is created by a collaboration of the estate staff, designers, botanists, and other specialists.
The project endeavours to collaborate with global partners and provide education and research opportunities encouraging dynamic thinking and the conservation of biological diversity.
(Our garden explorer site and gardens are under construction and will be updated as they develop).
